Valentine’s Day {Staying In}

Happy Valentine’s Day!  For some of you this day could be considered a special one while for others it isn’t.  No matter how you feel about the day, it is a good thing to recognize the relationship you’re in and what makes it a special one no matter what day of the year it is.  If you’re like my husband and I, we definitely don’t go out of our way to celebrate Valentine’s Day but we do take a moment to remember how much we appreciate each other.  So instead of heading out to a fancy overpriced meal, why not try to “celebrate” by simply taking a night to do something that you both enjoy together.

1. Have a private dinner at home.

If you love to cook then why not try cooking together and make your favourite meal.  If you’re not a cook, then order in your favourite take out! There’s nothing wrong with taking a night off and enjoying some good conversation that doesn’t include talking about work or any stresses you’re currently dealing with.  One of my favourite lines from a movie is from “The Vow” when Channing Tatum’s character asks his wife (played by Rachel McAdams)  that has amnesia and doesn’t remember him after an accident, what her favourite book is and how he thought she could experience falling in love with him again for the first time, just like being able to read her favourite book for the first time.  Remember what conversations you had in the beginning that originally lit that spark and has kept it burning.

2. Cuddle under a blanket and watch TV or a Movie

Relaxing together is a great way to show each other you care without any words.  Snuggle with a cup of coffee or even a bowl of popcorn and sit back and enjoy!

3. Make your favourite treats together

Sweet or salty, doesn’t really matter, the point is to do it together.  On this night, calories don’t count so go ahead and have fun!

4. Have a games night

If you love board games or video games, this is a great way to fun together and a stress reliever.

Take some time this year to show your significant other how much you appreciate him/her.  The result can never be a bad one.
